Background & Training

Dr. Barrion was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science with honors from Syracuse University, before going on to earn her Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University College of Medicine in Syracuse.

She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, one of the most prestigious military medical facilities in the country, followed by her Ophthalmology residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

This combination of rigorous academic training and hands-on clinical immersion in a high-demand military medical environment gave Dr. Barrion a foundation that few civilian surgeons can match.

25 Years of Military Service

Dr. Barrion is a proud 25-year United States Navy veteran. Throughout her military career, she held a series of senior leadership positions that demonstrate both her clinical skill and her ability to perform under pressure:
● Chief of the Medical Staff, overseeing the quality and delivery of medical care across her command
● Ophthalmology Department Chair, leading a team of eye care professionals in a high-volume military medical setting
● Head of Refractive Surgery, directing the program responsible for restoring clear vision in active-duty service members

During her time in the Navy, Dr. Barrion performed over 15,000 vision correction procedures on the nation’s war fighters, including PRK, LASIK, SMILE, ICL, cataract surgery, and refractive lens exchange. Military refractive surgery demands exceptional precision: procedures must meet strict safety and performance standards, and patients often return to active duty within days of their operation.

This background makes Dr. Barrion one of the most experienced refractive surgeons in Northern California.
