Tired of wearing glasses or contacts but aren’t sure if you could qualify for LASIK? Nervous about having a permanent procedure that corrects your vision?
An implantable collamer lens like the Visian ICL from IQ Laser Vision may be something worth considering! Our surgeons have performed this procedure on many happy patients over the years, so why not find out if it could be right for you?
What is the Visian ICL?
The Visian ICL is an implantable collamer lens. The Visian ICL is FDA-approved and has a 99% rate of satisfaction with patients that have had it.
If you’re severely nearsighted, or have astigmatism, you may be a good candidate for the Visian ICL. Severe nearsightedness is not something that LASIK can treat as effectively since the procedure can only treat up to -11 diopters of nearsightedness.
The Visian ICL can treat and correct up to -16 diopters of nearsightedness but with the ICL and LASIK, we have been able to treat up to -20 diopters of nearsightedness in patients! If you want freedom from glasses and contacts but know that your prescription is over LASIK’s treatment limit, the Visian ICL could be the solution you’re looking for!
You can feel confident knowing that the Visian ICL is a safe and effective procedure because ophthalmologists have performed over 1 million Visian ICL procedures!
Who is a Good Candidate for the Visian ICL?
For the best results, you should have the Visian ICL implanted to correct moderate to high nearsightedness, but it can treat a wide variety of prescriptions. It works best for people who are between the ages of 21 to 45.
If you’ve looked into other vision correction options and found out that your corneas are too thin, you can get the Visian ICL as well since there’s no tissue removed during the procedure. The Visian ICL is a tiny lens implant that you can have removed if your prescription changes or you change your mind for any reason.
The Visian ICL will give you clear vision and the peace of mind that you can live a life that’s free from the distractions of glasses and contacts.
What are the Benefits of the Visian ICL?
Deciding whether to have a procedure like the Visian ICL can be hard to make if you don’t know enough about it. Benefits of the Visian ICL include some of the following to consider:
The procedure is fast
The Visian ICL procedure usually takes only 20-30 minutes to complete. You may notice that your vision is better immediately after the procedure is over.
Most people go back to work the next day
Another advantage of the Visian ICL is you don’t need to take off days from work to recover. In fact, most people that have the Visian ICL implanted decide to go back to work the next day!
You likely will no longer need your glasses or contacts at all
Most people that go with the Visian ICL find that they no longer need to wear their glasses or contacts at all! Can you imagine a world where you’re no longer held back by the constraints of your vision?
The Visian ICL is safe to have implanted in your eye
If you’re nervous about having something implanted in your eye, don’t be. Your IQ Laser Vision surgeon will place the lens behind the iris, so nobody can see it.
The Visian ICL is compatible with the chemistry of your eye
The Visian ICL is made of collamer, a material that contains polymer and collagen. These materials are compatible with the chemistry of your eye. That means your eye and your body won’t react to them or try to reject them.
Instead, the Visian ICL is something that feels so natural you’ll forget it’s there!
You won’t have your cornea reshaped with a Visian ICL
Wondering if you’ll need to have your cornea reshaped like during LASIK? This is not the case during a Visian ICL procedure!
You won’t have your cornea reshaped in any way, and the Visian ICL is non-invasive. This makes the Visian ICL quite appealing for people that may have found out they can’t have LASIK because their corneas are too thin!
The Visian ICL protects your eyes
The Visian ICL minimizes unnatural causes of dry eye syndrome, especially when compared to LASIK. Because the lens is made of collamer, it contains an ultraviolet light filter, which protects your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays.
You can have the Visian ICL removed later on
Unlike a procedure like LASIK, having the Visian ICL implanted is completely reversible! It’s normal for your vision needs to change as you age. Your eye doctor can easily implant another lens to address your vision needs if you want.
You’ll have better vision than ever before with the Visian ICL
You may think you can see clearly using glasses or contacts, but you’ll have better vision than you’ve ever experienced when you have the Visian ICL implanted. Your vision will be sharper, clearer, and more vivid.
You’ll finally be able to see the world as it was meant to be seen, complete with vibrant colors, depth, dimension, and its full beauty. Who wouldn’t prefer this as their way of seeing the world around them?
How Does the Visian ICL Procedure Work?
A week before the surgery, the first step is to visit your IQ Laser Vision ophthalmologist, who will be performing the procedure.
At your first appointment, they’ll use a laser to create pinprick-sized holes in your eye. This isn’t painful and actually helps make your ICL procedure more effective! It limits pressure and fluid between the lens and the outer chamber of the eye.
Antibiotics and eye drops can prevent infection and swelling before the surgery. A week later, it’s procedure day!
On the day of the procedure, you’ll lie on a surgical bed. A nurse will give you numbing eye drops. The last thing anyone wants is you to be in pain, so they’ll numb your eyes and help keep you comfortable.
If you’re feeling really nervous, let the staff at IQ Laser Vision know. They can give you either a sedative or an IV to help you relax.
You’ll still be awake but sedated. Being sedated helps you move your eyes less during the procedure. If you’re still feeling overwhelmed, close your eyes and breathe. It will be over before you know it!
Once your eyes are numb and you’re comfortable, your surgeon will use drops and sprays to clean out your eyes. They will also use a lid speculum to gently hold your eyelids open so they can insert the implant.
Your surgeon then creates a small incision in your eye and uses lubricant to keep the cornea moist and comfortable. They may fold the lens in half before inserting it into the eye, so it ends up in the right place before unfolding it.
Once they make sure the lens is in place, your surgeon will wipe off the lubricant. In some cases, your surgeon may use small stitches on the lens to help with healing.
Your surgeon or the nurses at IQ Laser Vision will apply eye drops or ointment to lubricate and protect the cornea. You will have an eye patch to wear after the procedure to protect against light and anything that may irritate your eye.
After you’re cleared to go home, you’ll need to have someone else drive you home. You can’t drive yourself home so make sure a friend or family member can bring you to and from your appointment.
You’ll need to rest your eyes once you get home from your Visian ICL procedure. Avoid any activities that may strain your eyes like watching TV, reading, or any strenuous exercising for the first day.
You can use drops and ointments to keep your eyes moist once you are home after your Visian ICL procedure. Expect to return to your eye doctor the day after you have the implant for a follow-up appointment.
This is to ensure your eyes are healing and the lens is where it should be.
